CycNSW has a simple way to handicap (or grade) all NSW registered club riders for CycNSW Open category road events.
* CycNSW has created a fictional 100k road race handicap - with the first starters receiving a 34 minute start on the scratch (back) markers.
* This is a simple and easy to understand concept which should assist the proper grading of all road races at the State level.
* These State gradings do not relate to local club or Waratah Masters club gradings (the grades are not directly comparable).
* BiciSport (State) grades are updated quarterly & sent to the CycNSW handicapper (Peter Tomlinson).
* Peter Tomlinson does the CycNSW velodrome gradings directly from his own information.
* Should you have an issue with your BiciSport (State) road grading please contact Mike O`Reilly at bicisportcycling@westnet.com.au.
* Should you have an issue with your track grading, please go directly to Peter Tomlinson via email at pt2587@bigpond.com or 0408 597 506
* The current BiciSport road gradings at 30 April 2010 can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
The following State grades apply if you enter a State level road event, and are -
CycNSW A grade - Scratch, `2 minute` bunch
CycNSW B grade - `4 minute` & `6 minute` bunches
CycNSW C grade - `8 minute` & `10 minute` bunches
CycNSW D grade - `12 minute`, `14 minute` & `16 minute` bunches
CycNSW E grade - `18 minute`, `20 minute` & `22 minute` bunches
CycNSW F grade - `24 minute`, `26 minute` & `28 minute` bunches
CycNSW G grade - `30 minute`, `32 minute` & `34 minute` bunches
Please note -
* these gradings relate to your State Open grade and not your local Northside Club grade,
* why the difference ? - State grades are generally much harder than Northside Club grades -
for example,
* if you ride Northside "A" grade at say Mt Ku Ring gai criteriums then you can`t expect to automatically receive State "A" grade - you may well receive B or C grade at the State level.
* if you ride Northside "B" or "C" grade then anticipate State level D or E grade.
* if you ride in the Masters division, irrespective of your Northside grade, only exceptional Masters are graded State "A" or "B" grade. Generally, the better Masters are graded State "C" grade, and the majority are graded State "D" grade or lower.
So what is a CycNSW State "Division" ?.
This is where State grades (as per above) are merged to form single "Divisions" for country races.
Why merge into Divisions at country races ?.
This is done for traffic management purposes by the individual State event promoters (generally country road events), where there is insufficient entries in one State grade - these State grades are then merged on a case by case basis with other grades to form "Division" races. This is done to comply with NSW Police requirements for the conduct of safe & manageable road races on country roads.
Please be mindful that the country "Division" that you race in can vary between events (as the number of event entries does in itself vary) - you may be Division 2 one week, but be placed in Division 3 the following week.
